I’m currently building a series of psychological thrillers around Caroline Cauldin and the wider Project Heartless universe. The main novel is still being written. For now, there are two ways into Caroline’s world. The Sheriff’s Daughter is the first published Project Heartless story, designed as a short, one-sitting thriller. The Woman Lucy Met is a free story available online and will eventually form part of a larger novel. Building Caroline has made me pay much more attention to a particular kind of thriller protagonist: women who are difficult to classify. They may be victims when we meet them. They may be wives, mothers, professionals, fugitives or killers. But somewhere along the way, the usual balance changes. They stop being the person everyone else is acting upon....
